So you’ve decided to apply to have the opportunity to be part of the first cohort of FORWARD?

You’ve taken the first step to possibly starting a journey that will see your business move to the next level.

We’ve put together this application together so that we can learn about you and your business. Based upon these applications we will call potential participants to an interview with our panel. This is about learning what your business aims to do and where it is currently at. We want to see what resources you need to get there to match up with the support that we are able to offer.


As you’ll see on the first page we have requested that you submit a pitch deck. These are the 10 slides we suggest you include (based upon Guy Kawasaki’s work) but feel free you use your own format:

  1. Title Slide – Company Name & Contact Info
  2. Problem/Opportunity – Describe the pain being alleviated or the pleasure being provided.
  3. Value Proposition – what value do you provide. 
  4. ‘Underlying Magic’ – The process, tech or magic behind your business (Less words – more visuals!)
  5. Business Model – How the money moves about
  6. Go-to-Market Plan – How are you going to reach customers
  7. Competitor Analysis – Who is about? What do they have that you don’t?
  8. Management Team – Who is involved in your business?
  9. Financial Projections 
  10. Current Status & Timeline

Tips:

  • Be honest and don’t send across any BS that you don’t believe in yourself. On the other hand don’t be scared to be ambitious about your future aims.
  • There is no need to stress about this application – we are here to support you!
  • Unsure? Ask us for some help! Help will always be given to those who ask for it. 
  • There is no such thing as too much detail when it comes to this application. 
  • If you want to know what we are looking for then we can tell you that! We are looking for businesses that we feel can have an impact and individuals and teams that we think have what it takes to make that impact.

Code of Conduct

We are not here to put a bunch of rules on you on how you have to work or think or operate! Everyone has ways of doing things that works for them and we get that. However as part of FORWARD there are a few basic expectations we have of our startups and founders:

    • We have no room for any sort of discrimination or hate of any type within FORWARD or the BEC community. If there is evidence that you’ve engaged in such behaviour then you’ll be gone. 
    • Be honest – to us, to your co-founders & team members, to your customers/users, investors etc. Do not mislead or use unethical sales tactics. Building an authentically honest business from day one is how we like to do things. 
    • Confidentiality – If you are given confidential information from us, a fellow startup or one of our partners then please keep it confidential. If you are unsure whether it is confidential or not then ask the person who gave you the information. 
    • Honour Agreements – If you make an agreement of any type then keep to it!
    • Be respectful – Always treat others with respect, be professional and don’t do anything to damage the reputation of your business, FORWARD or BEC. 
    • Value & Appreciate Ideas – In the BEC community there is no such thing as an idea that is too ambitious, too big or stupid. We encourage radical thinking and will always champion those that think big. 
    • Help & Support – We will help & support you in every way we can. We ask that you do what you can to help & support the community – including the other startups in the cohort. BEC was created on the principle that we can achieve more by working together. Become your fellow startups biggest fans!
    • Engage – You will get out the programme what you put in. The more you engage the more you are likely to get out of your time on FORWARD. 

Disregard for this code of conduct may result in a withdrawal of your position in the FORWARD cohort and therefore a removal of access to the resources offered through the programme. The decision to do this will not be taken lightly and will be used as a last resort (apart from clear hate and discrimination which will result in immediate widthdrawal). You will be given the chance to state your case if we are thinking of withdrawing you from the programme.
